I have travelled in many parts of North America, France, Italy, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand and have not found a granola recipe as tasty and nourishing as the one I have developed.
Over time, I have experimented with different ingredients and finally came up with the ones I like the most with maximum goodness, the result being … The World’s Best Granola.
All the ingredients I use have a combination of dietary fibre, antioxidants, omega oils, vitamins and nutrients, which I find helps boost my physical performance and hopefully protects my health.
Everyone who has tried this granola loves it and they are baking it regularly themselves.
The advantage about making your own, is you can adjust the ingredients to your taste and preference, without compromising the recipe.
For the last 4 years I have happily made and consumed my granola and thought I should share the recipe with you.
It is easy to make, very tasty and nutritious, oh and keeps you regular!
Jono’s Granola Recipe
Combine the following dry ingredients in a large bowl:
3 cups of jumbo rolled oats
½ cup of:
- sunflower seeds
- sesame seeds
- pumpkin seeds
- coconut flakes
1 cup of:
- wheat-germ
- chopped walnuts
- chopped almonds
- chopped brazil nuts
In a measuring cup, combine the following wet ingredients:
- just under ½ cup of liquid honey
- small quantity of boiling water to melt the honey (brings up to ½ cup level)
- ½ cup of olive oil and
- ½ cup of black strap molasses – stir the wet ingredients really well.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix and stir well.
Spoon the mixture onto an oven tray with a baking sheet and spread evenly and place in the middle of the oven at 110 celcius or 230 fahrenheit on fanbake for 40 minutes. Remove every 10 minutes to stir.
Once cooked, remove from oven and let the granola properly cool, stirring it occasionally to keep it separated.
Once cooled, spoon into a sealed container (break up the granola) and store in a cupboard or fridge. It can also be frozen.
Serving suggestions
I eat the granola with dried fruits (apricots and prunes soaked overnight), fresh seasonal fruits, chia seeds and flaxseed oil. You can moisten the granola further with the juice from the dried fruit, fruit juice, milk or yoghurt.
